The new series of compilations on Soma is set to be recorded by musical visionaries and you definitely can place Lucien Nicolet among such artists. He’s Swiss, he’s got Chilean roots and he is the owner of the great Cadenza label. “Sci.Fi.Hi.Fi. Volume 2” is an unhurried and light trip through various shades of minimal. No matter whether it’s house, tech-house or techno, Luciano manages to smuggle in a dose of funk which effectively draws attention and forbids listening to the album motionlessly. Unfortunately, the majority of the tracks included on this compilation were released last year and the biggest moments are built by slightly overplayed productions such as “OK, Thats Great, Start Over”, “A Walking Contradiction” and “Glasshouse”. The only interesting newbies are “Bateria lup!” and "Father”. "Sci.Fi.Hi.Fi. Volume 2” would be a great album if it didn’t lack some spirit. There aren’t many instances when one can listen with bated breath. However, it’s worth mentioning that the compilation was recorded live and in one-take using only vinyl, which is noticeable in a few very short moments. Comments[0]
