After two albums on the Masters Series, with an excellent first one, Renaissance entrusts Hernán Cattáneo with starting his own line of releases. Here are a few words about the opening compilation. It starts with a two-track flirtation with minimal and Detroit sounds from South America. Then it all goes back to the music we are used to hearing from Hernán, but luckily he reminds us that one can play progressive without encouraging listeners to fall asleep. CD 1, except for a break for a nap in the form of “1983”, is a smooth and pleasant set, which does not lack killers. The most memorable part is the last 20 minutes which consists of 4 very good tracks, especially the psychedelic “With My Friend” and the brilliant remix of “For The Time Being”. As usual, the first disc is more tranquil while the second more party oriented. We are already hammered into our armchair by the first track and the feeling comes back when “Destiny” is spotlessly glued with “Fatal Attraction” (Marco Bailey goes progressive!) and “Lisopain”. Undoubtedly, CD 2 would bring mayhem to many dancefloors. I can go back to progressive only when it’s top shelf and perfectly and creatively mixed. “Sequential” meets both requirements. Comments[0]
