The history of this quite unusual album started no more than a few months ago when the infamous American photographer Sacha Dean Biyan asked the Dessous label to compile music for his website (www.eccentris.com). Everybody appreciated the final result, so the new partners decided to create something bigger, namely a double CD multimedia product of the highest aesthetic standards. The first CD has been compiled by the owner of Dessous Steve Bug. It’s kept in the sensual mood of deep house with some spicy additives of nu jazz and soul. The whole thing sounds very warm and lazy, and after one browses the 36 page CD booklet, even bloody erotic. The second CD is a DJ set prepared by the Âme duet (Kristian Beyer & Frank Wiedemann), which also doesn’t hide its fascinations with deep house music. After the huge success of the ‘Rej’ EP it’s worth checking out how the guys manage on the turntables. And frankly speaking, I’m impressed neither by their mixing skills nor by their track selection. Audible transitions and the constantly changing mood from track to track together with songs like ‘Keep on Turning’ do not add any value to this record. The good thing is that one can be pleasantly taken away by tracks like ‘Someone to Love’, ‘Dragon Loop’ and ‘Edges of Confusion’. I have the impression that the musicians haven’t been able to match the quality of the photography, which comes as no surprise as Sacha is definately one of the best in his profession. Anyway, the idea itself, the visual setting and the photographs have left me deeply impressed. And if Sound Revolt was devoted to photography, the album would receive a six!
