Guido Schneider released his debut CD with vocalist Florian Schirmach (Glowing Glisses) back in 2003, but it was the singles he recorded for Poker Flat two years later that brought him real popularity. His artist album ‘Focus on...’ is however not just a summary of his achievements to date but, first and foremost, it’s a testimony of Schneider’s current production skills. The first notes of the record bring about two associations: the minimalism of Richie Hawtin and the hallucinogenous aura of DJ Three. Guido’s productions on the album are characterized by a hypnotic and deep sound and the artist derives just as much from Detroit techno as he does from French deep house in the instrumental layer. Moreover, Schneider doesn’t shun melodies that present themselves very well on the background of minimal yet warm percussions and a ubiquitous rattling. It’s also worth having a closer listen to the transitions as in this respect the artist also proves how near perfect his skills really are. He’s managed to join all the individual tracks so cleverly that at times one can lose himself figuring out which part of the record he is currently listening to. The best moments? My favourites are the truly original productions ‘Re-moved’ and ‘Too Many Voices’ together with the magnificent remix of ‘Reegnschauer’. Guido Schneider’s artist album has been put together in such a way that it is very difficult to stop listening to it. The sound engineering, the arrangements and the transitions are all top notch and of the highest quality. Comments[0]
