The master of innovation and the mixing of genres, Damian Lazarus, is back with another compilation. However, this time with the help of Mathew Styles, a man he co-runs an amazing label, Crosstown Rebels, with.
After such an introduction you can’t expect anything common. The first CD is an example of minimal, electric and tech housey underground music in its purest form. From beautiful melodies (“Far Away”, “Privacy”), through avant-garde ideas and constructions (“Silent Shout”, “Plumbicon”, “Circus Maximus”), to rousing pieces (“How Not To Be A Biscuit”) and even calm dubby compositions (“Opium Den”) – everything on this disc is perfectly crafted and goes together flawlessly.
If we were to call the first CD crazy, we would have problems with finding a proper word to describe the second one. On CD 2, we’ll find an uncompromising vision of broken beats, alternative rock, experimental, hip hop, electro and house. Probably indigestible for some listeners, but for others – revealing. In any case, the couchy part of “Get Lost” needs to be tried out.
