“Passage” is a good example of what a horrible vocal at the beginning of a CD can do to the whole release. The third track on Jacob Todd’s artist album deterred me from wanting to know the rest. After a long time, at the third attempt, I managed to get through it and realised that “Passage” is actually a very good CD.
I don’t know if it’s because of rare contact with this type of music, but Jacob’s atmospheric and melodic progressive breaks bring to mind the greatest times of the genre. In the era when even Jonathan Lisle – one of Todd’s discoverers – is playing techno and electro it’s good to know that there are still artists who have the ability not to bore with darkness and space. “Passage” is impressive both production and composition-wise. This album makes a solid whole with almost all the tracks being worthy of mentioning. And all the vocals – except the chorus on “Cover Me” – deserve condemnation
