After releasing Paul Kalkbrenner’s productions for the last 6 years, BPitch Control has finally decided to honour the artist with a collection of remixes issued on the silver disc. The record is titled ‘ReWorks’ and the label has invited artists recently gaining a lot of support from dance music fans to work on it. The album is opened by a beatless interpretation of the track ‘Steinbeisser’, which, despite the fact that it sounds like thousands of other ambient productions, should get a good response for the idea. Unfortunately, I can’t say the same thing about the ‘Miles Away’ remix by Sascha Funke, which sounds like yet another knock off of ‘Airdrawndagger’. The perfect feeling reward goes to Agoria who combined 3 different Kalkbrenner tracks into one, and at the same time added the French touch and an amazing accordion part on top. Let me also single out great remixes delivered by Joris Voorn and the duo Ellen Allien and Apparat. However, I have to scold Alexander Kowalski for his trivial approach to the anthem ‘Gebrünn Gebrünn’. I have to admit that I expected something bigger from this album, but anyway I have listened to it a dozen or so times, so how could I not recommend it?
