Cabinet Records is a Berlin-based label, the catalogue of which has been played out by artists such as Richie Hawtin for many years. It’s not surprising that he decided to remind people about the output of this exceptional imprint. But not only does he remind – one of the CDs includes unreleased productions.
This was a perfect move, because Cabinet Records’ tracks have a great ability to resist becoming stale. Such releases prove that dance music’s expiry date doesn’t have to be set for two or three years. Excellent rhythm, hypnotic darkness and the feel of being done live – these are just some of the features of the techno, tech trance and acid house tracks included on the album. Even though some of the tunes tend to bore, a feeling which is amplified by the lack of mixing, the amount of gems and the historic value place this album among the most interesting releases of the last few months.
