Such releases as ‘Cubic LP001’ are extreme rarities, because it is one of the few albums that can be considered both a label compilation and artist album. Well, frankly speaking, this is the only one I’ve ever come across. The person responsible for the whole thing is Tony Thomas – the producer, the DJ and the label owner.
‘Cubic LP001’ is a mixed compilation of the best tracks that were released last year on Cubic and Cubic Digital. Most of the productions are mayhem makers that have been played by the biggest jocks out there. No wonder. Tony is a very prolific and experienced artist who knows perfectly what elements a track needs to become a dancefloor shaker. His recipe for mixing tech house with electro, tribal and progressive became a trademark, which enables identification of his music after the first sounds leave the speakers.
Unfortunately, the album as a whole is not that unique. It lacks moments for taking a breath, changing the mood. Tony wheeled out his biggest cannons, risking light injures among some listeners. But I’m sure that fans of heavier artillery will be more content.
