John Digweed - Transitions vol. 2

The second edition of the ‘Transitions’ series is about to be released almost exactly 6 years after GU’s ‘Los Angeles’. I’m referring to the ‘Global Underground’ release for a reason, as this was the first album from John Digweed which truly amazed me. This one is the second one.

Digweed has finally realized that hasty mixing isn’t appropriate for a true master. The record has been precisely planned and well-thought-out, thanks to which the outcome is a masterpiece full of great music and awesome mixing. The compilation consists of carefully selected tracks that crush the listener with extremely elongated breakdowns which run with the majestic speed of a locomotive. There’s a number of good melodies as well (just to mention ‘Camina Del Sol’ or ‘The Shivering’), but even more progressive buzzers that make ominous noise in the background. The record is a showy combination of Digweed’s characteristic slightly trancey sounds and the techier, electro flavoured accents of the present.

John Digweed has proven with this title that he’s still in good shape. He plays with enthusiasm again, almost as if he took a deep, refreshing breath of air.
