Damero (Marit Posch) joggs on the same streets in Berlin as Apparat, provided her vocals on his ‘Riding’ track, works on advertising at the BPitch Control label, and secretly makes music and sings at home. One day she let Ellen Allien listen to her songs and this immediately resulted in an album. ‘Happy in Grey’ tastes like soup made of Apparat, Ellen Allien and Nena, and Damero’s productions are bristled with borrowings of all kinds from lyrical Christmas songs up to Madonna from the eighties. At times, her voice is quite pleasant while at others they’re almost unbearable. It’s because the melodies of the vocals and the lyrics themselves are in some places too trivial. Despite that, the record offers something interesting and unusual... something that I’d call girly freshness or feminine fragility. There’s also a track called ‘Capricorn Saltlick’ – a truly moving composition that even Martin L. Gore wouldn’t be ashamed of. Damero definitely has got a bright future and her second album will be something original and unusual if only she wants it to be. This one, in the meantime, I recommend mostly to women.
