Nicolas Matuszczak, with his shy smile, balding forehead and simple glasses - despite the Polish sounding surname – looks to me like a typical Frenchman and an exemplary head of a family. And indeed, Matzak has spent last months raising his daughter and producing an artist album in his spare time. ‘Life Beginnings’ sounds neither French nor Polish – I’d place it rather somewhere among the creativity of Holden, Fake and Extrawelt – but you won’t be able to find that positively expressed music characteristic of these artists. Matzak’s album was made to immediately attract the listener. It’s so rich in captivating melodies that you may grow weary of its sweetness if you’re not used to such sounds. I wasn’t harmed, but have to admit that the first part of the record, excluding ‘Lamuerte’ and ‘Girl in Water’, has already pestered me a lot. But I still come back with pleasure to the slightly more modest, therefore truly beautiful tracks, ‘Real Fusion’ and ‘Puzzle Bubble’. I know I’ve already complained a little, but I’d still include Matzak to the group of artists who produce not only sound patterns but first and foremost real music.
