Alex Winner is yet another Scandinavian musician whose creative activity cannot be easily put inside the frames of contemporary and widely comprehended types of dance music. To create his tracks, he uses loops and samples taken out of pop and new romantic songs from the 80s and places them onto techno beats. The sentence with pop music in the introduction may both successfully discourage and intrigue. In my case, the latter won, but the fact that the album is released on Kompakt, which is not necessarily famous for releasing average records, is also a strong argument in this case. So despite all my aversion to short loops, on which The Field built the whole album, his music is definitely a good listen. But that’s not all, I also caught myself being put in a dreamy mood influenced by the romantic vibe that rules many tracks on this record, and this is something you don’t usually experience while communing with techno.
