Stewart Walker is yet another American who’s found his life to be better in Berlin, and his newest artist album ‘Concentricity’ is supposed to reflect the typical style of the capital of Germany. No, the final product is not minimal. Walker’s music, despite the shape of hypnotic electronica with strong experimental shades, is filled with incredibly warm melodies. So Stewart’s musical home is still nearer to American deep house and downtempo than to Berlin’s minimalism. This is proven by tracks like ‘Madness, Like Schools of Fish’, ‘Most Natural Thing in the World’, or ‘We Welcome Utopia!!!’ that endear not only with intriguing titles, but mainly with a charming fairytale atmosphere which Stewart has perfectly built on this album. The quality of the record is maybe reduced by mediocre mixes, but of the two evils, I prefer this to an unmixed compilation.
