Modeselektor is a German duo featuring Gernot Bronsert and Sebastian Szary, who’ve been very active on the Berliner music scene since the early 90’s. Their first official compilation is a mixture of experimental techno, dubstep, electro and hip hop, and that means that it’s going to be unusual.

And indeed, the dexterity behind the work of combining such diverse tracks is amazing. Holden, Apparat, Carl Craig, Mr. Oizo, µZiq and Radiohead is not a set of artists that you normally meet on one record, and additionally, this one is really enjoyable. There’s one “but” though. And that’s that half of the productions compiled by Modeselektor have already been covered by a long beard, and I don’t think it’s the time yet for shaving. The artists have taken a shortcut by reaching out for well-known numbers instead of serving us something really fresh. Despite that, the album deserves its place in your in-house collections, so it’s worth taking an interest in it.
