Tobias Thomas is one of the pillars of the famous German label Kompakt. Under its wings, he put out his first DJ set ‘Fuer Dich’ in 1999, which became the first part of the artist’s trilogy. In 2003, the well received ‘Smallville’ came out, and this year sees the release of the final part, ‘Please Please Please’.
Thomas’s compilations are more artist albums than DJ presentations. Moving around the atmosphere of techno, he makes epic, well-thought-out, mature works. He cares more about timelessness than a moment of delight, thanks to which his legacy will do us good through many years. What is ‘Please Please Please’ then? It’s majestic, dark, deep in its first part, and rhythmic, even dancey in the second. From Pantha Du Prince to Stella, from techno through deep house up to ambient and from intelligent electronica to optimistic vocals. An interesting piece of music you should definitely get familiar with.
