Whatever Girl - Activator (You Need Some) The Remixes

Do you realize that original mix of this famous track is 10 years old? I don’t think Sound Revolt, if it had existed, would have been interested in reviewing it. Considering its style, this minimal track was placed rather in kitschy house, than in forming then progressive. In principle, to express its nature should be enough to mention, that the piece was championed by Junior Vasquez.

Whatever Girl is a cooperation of Bill Coleman and Louie “Ballo” Guzman. Bill has been in the market for 16 years. He owns Peace Bisquit, a production and management company, that represents a genre-defying artists including Deee-Lite, The Beloved and Ultra Nate. He’s also a journalist, a reviewer (once for Billboard magazine too), a producer and a remixer. Balo is a DJ and producer responsible for many house dancefloors killers. Together, beside “Activator” the released I guess less known track called “Know You Can”.

The list of remixes is opened by a work of PQM, that I wrote about on the occasion of reviewing “You Are Sleeping”. This man undoubtedly knows how to change a track for the better, which is proven also this time. The remix has been arranged on a melody of bass line, which creates a background for very interesting chords of synth. Slightly techy hi-hats and some more rousing melodies do the rest. If I wasn’t allergic to looped vocal samples, the remix would receive the highest note.

In opposite, there’s not even an ounce of melody in Deep Dish’s edit. However there are lots of turns in action which will surely work on thousands of clubbers dancing in whole lot of lights. Will do on a three hundred in semidarkness?

The third remix is the effect of work of the original mix producers and Albert Cabrera. The beats smell here like latino, which in combination with electric guitar riffs and slightly tribal drums is really unbearable for me. However I can imagine one of my DJ-friends’ glad face when listening to the sounds of this piece.

Remixes are being released to please everyone with one or two 12”. If I like one the tracks, the goal has been achieved. The label adds in Bill’s vocals saute and some DJ tools, that is something for creative DJs.
