Various Artists - Total 8

Although many aspects of the electronic music scene have changed a great deal since Wolfgang Voigt, Michael Mayer and Jürgen Paape started Kompakt, one thing has undeniably remained the same. Namely, the Cologne-based label’s spot among the most consistent and influential techno labels in the world. The imprint’s annual ‘Total’ compilations go a long way in supporting my claim.

The eighth addition to the ‘Total’ series is a very solid comp which in the most part consists of tracks released by the label in the past year, coupled with a number of exclusive and pretty unique not just in a musical sense, as for example Voight and Burger’s first joint effort in the studio in no less than ten years, productions. Both CDs compliment each other very well. The first disc is mostly made up of very well produced and sublime tracks, while the second one is where you'll find the more dance floor oriented cuts. All in all, listening to ‘Total 8’ is like listening to a set from a DJ who knows how to build tension and keep you interested from start to finish.

Not just for the most avid of fans.
