Will Saul is a prime example to prove the thesis that talent, good taste in music and hard work will quickly result in success. May the good reviews of releases from Simple Records and Aus Music in the music press, and his successful residencies at The End in London and Weekend in Berlin stand as a certificate of my words. The ‘Simple Sounds’ album not only recaps the last 2 years of his musical activities, but also offers some fresh tracks as well. What’s best (mostly because it is fresh ) is included on the first record. The productions compiled on it sharply reflect the dark style of the artist which wanders from lounge, to deep house through techno. It’s easy to sense that Will concentrates more on harmony and arrangement, and by doing so pushes dancefloor values slightly into the background. Further charm is added by exclusive productions delivered by Saul with an excellent Chicken Lips remix, which is my favourite track on this album since the very first listen. The second CD will be a tasty treat for those who were not acquainted with the output of either Simple or Aus till they came across this album. Those who are already familiar with the releases of both labels just may be easily put off and forced to enjoy the first part of it. Or maybe I’m just not the type of music lover who enjoys DJ sets based on the catalogue of one or two labels only? Comments[0]
