Jimmy Van M is undoubtedly a top class DJ as he is said to be one of the best performing artists, if we were to go by comments and reviews in the music press. The issue is that even though his club events usually are storming affairs, his official releases are received with rather lukewarm enthusiasm. Is this also the case with the newest 'Balance'? I'm afraid it is. Even though Jimmy’s effort sticks out thanks to perfect mixing, he plays exactly what others do. Bodzin, Planet Funk, Picotto, Umek - I agree, these are great and accredited brands, but nevertheless I expect a bit more effort in the process of searching and selecting tracks for mixes from an artist of his stature. I demand something original when buying Van M's records , but what I'm given is exactly what I tend to hear at every club night. OK, let's be more subtle - I meant every decent club night, because despite my carping at derivativeness, I enjoyed the album very much. Comments[0]
