DJ Emerson - Boy Got Bass 2

For me, DJ Emerson has in recent years been the embodiment of very party oriented minimal techno. I have never heard anything from him that could be considered mind blowing or innovative in the slightest bit, but whenever I feel like listening to something that is a little less serious and a little more fun, his productions and sets usually turn out to be fairly good choices. ‘Boy Got Bass 2’ is a fairly good sonic illustrastion of my claim.

The second installment to the German veteran’s series of mix CDs is first and foremost a well thought out and well built energetic set, which I wouldn’t mind hearing at a packed club at 3 in the morning. However, most on the tracks on it lose most of what’s best about them when listened to in an armchair and I can’t help thinking that my final impressions would have been much more positive had I actually heard it in a club setting.

If you’re not the type of person that treats music like a carton of milk with a short expiry date (there are several older and well known numbers on ‘Boy...’ to be found), then you’ll probably enjoy this mix. Just don’t expect anything cutting edge and life changing before you give it a listen, because the most it got out of me was a moderate amount of head and foot movement.
