8 years in the music industry, and 69 releases. A wide spectrum of artists ranging from legends like A Guy Called Gerald and Baby Ford, to the well known Jack Fairley (nowadays better known as Fairmont) and the young and zealous Bloody Mary and Andre Crom (one of my favourite minimal artists of late). Sender Records' output can be best be described as not very complicated yet rather extraordinary techno, intended to be played at clubs rather than at home.. The Berlin-based DJ and producer, and owner of Sender, Benno Blome has finally decided to compile and mix the label's first ever musical business card, and has presented a compilation which contains nothing but Sender tracks. Blome focused on productions that have hit store shelves in recent months. Among the 17 tracks that make up the CD, 4 ('Lumberjack', 'Vogelgrippe', 'Stereotype', 'Quarz') will be issued separately as singles more or less at the same time as the compilation itself. The feelings I got after several listens were extremely different. Very lively and great tracks like 'Tanz Der Polymere', 'Vogelgrippe' or 'Boita Musiq' were mixed with hard to perceive and crude tracks like 'Larry's Circus' and the previously mentioned 'Sterotype', which is also the most unfortunate track in Franklin Da Costa's discography. Unluckily, these unsuccessful productions cast a shadow on even the greatest elements of this work. The arrangement of the tracks leaves a lot to be desired as well. It is uneven and you will not find a well built atmosphere on it - with the exception of the first three tracks. After that, there is nothing more than total disorder, which brings with it a slight feeling of disgust. And it is for this very reason that your attention is drawn away from the music and you'll focus it more on making yourself a cup of coffee to help you get through listening until the end. As far as studio comps are concerned, I consciously avoid assessing the technical aspects, as they are usually free of any imperfections - and this time the situation is the same. Comments[0]
