As an unshaken fan of good songs, I put my hands on the debut album of the creators of my beloved ‘Far Away‘ with joy and hope. It was December, and the sounds of ‘Pain Disappears‘ were doing a very good job of keeping me warm. However, something happened – a month later, after several hours spent with the album, I find reviewing it to be more of a duty than a pleasure. Why? The answer is quite simple, really - Mlle Caro and Franck Garcia recorded something fairly catchy, but unfortunately too simple to keep a listener‘s attention for a longer while. Or maybe it‘s just me who demands too much from a hybrid of pop and electronica? No, I demand that every album consists of something more than just many incarnations of a few ideas, and that’s precisely what seems to be the main problem with ‘Pain Disappears. First of all, there’s the electronic beat and bass coupled with simultaneous male and female vocals, which cannot be described as pearls of timbre and voice projection, but I guess that was the point. Then, there are the different sets of add-ons: guitars in combination with strings, just guitars , or just strings etc. Despite the changes of tempo and mood, the 10 tracks seem like one monotonous whole. Nonetheless, these disadvantages do not not exclude regular returns to the best productions, i.e. ‘Apologies‘, ‘Dead Souls‘, ‘Mon Ange‘ and ‘No One‘, and I must say that there is a big chance they will survive in my playlist till Spring.
