As was the case the first time around with Anja Schneider's installment, Mobilee has brought us a two disc compilation made up entirely of the Berlin-based label's catalogue. Alexander Tsotos, better known as GummiHz in the world of electronic music, was recruited to compile the second edition. Following the 'Back To Back' tradition, the first CD is an unmixed collection of tracks released last year, with the addition of two exclusive cuts from the man responsible for the comp. The first CD presents a lighter, more melodic side of the German label. All of the included numbers are top notch, which is precisely why most big name DJs have supported them in past months. The disc works great as a mood builder for what's to come on the second one. The form of CD2 also entices, as it is a combination of loops and hooks from 27 cuts mixed live in Ableton. However, despite the great introduction and even better finale, GummiHz's effort falls short of being solid to say the very least. For most of it, it is difficult not feeling that the spine of the mix is a tiring and outrate irritating attempt to prolongue what was so good about its beginning. It is only after several dozen minutes that seem to go on forever that an effort is made to raise the tension, but it is done in such chaotic fashion (both in respect to technique and track selection) that it turns out to be a failed effort. Luckily, Tsotsos managed to save his face towards the end but, all in all, it just isn't enough to praise him for what is on the second disc at the end of the day. Comments[0]
