Red Flag Collective is a brand new label on the European music market, in principle on its end, because it operates in far-away Turkey. Since there, it means that Yunus Guvenen must have had his hand in this. And indeed it’s him, alongside with Subsky, Muzo and Barish Turker was the originator of this business venture. The first release from the label is two-track EP called “Step One” by Yunus & Subsky.
The piece “Erotic Sumo”, which opens the release, is a both men show of musical and producing artistry. A quite fast, very energetic, full of turns and bizarre breakdowns track. The sound of the introduction is very similar to the famous Pole Folder’s & CP’s “Apollo Vibes”, especially when the pitch shifter goes up a bit. Further I can listen to it without any associations, which give way to substantial admiration for the authors. It is because the arrangement, progressive layering, and most of all, very good melodies, put this track in a first row of this year’s best releases.
On the flip side we’ve got a classic killer with a groovy melody on the foreground, which heard once, remains in a head for a very long time. The track has been built on a very low sounded; real shiver making bass line, contrasting perfectly to the percussion beats, which absolutely imitate live drums. Is this the new sound of Yunus’ drums? I bet it is! The electronic emulation of the electric guitar solo, which comes right after the first breakdown, even more confirms his escapades for new sounds. It is also to mention, that “Airfuzz” is a breakbeat production, which has happened for the very first time to both musicians.
It is almost a miracle, that the producers’ duo of Yunus & Subsky has developed for itself the very new, original sound, much different from what they present solo. Excellent two tracks will surely do a great job promoting both their authors and the Red Flag Collective.
By the way, don’t you puzzle what’s behind the “Erotic Sumo” title? I did, so I asked Subsky if it should call anything. The answer was quite disappointing, because he said the only reason to pick this title was... it sounded funny for them!
