SOS - Balance 013

Even though I value the solo careers of Desyn Masiello, Demi and Omid 16B, I’ve never really even thought of reaching for their sets recorded together under their SOS moniker. The reason for this is quite simple - I don’t have time for party mixes. But the Balace series is a whole different story and there was no way I was not going to spend some time with the trio.

First impression? A great first CD, the remaing two without energy and inspid. However, I didn’t give up and decided to devote some more time to the compilation. In the end, I came to like all the CDs. The first one because it beautifuly mixes downtempo, house and some 80’s sounds from the likes of Bryan Ferry, Imagination or The Cure. Of course some of the oldies were included in their remixed versions or edited by the SexOnSubstance trio which had a hand in 13 productions that landed on ‘Balance 013‘.

The second CD is a dance continuation of the first – the authors quickly create mayhem with tracks 2 and 3, but do not let the fire burn for too long. At times it gets softer, at others harder, but it never lacks taste and class. CD 3 represents a full on party on which coming down a peg would just evoke a crowd‘s discontent. Demi, Omid and Desyn know how to play during late hours and present a cohesive whole, which means a more hypnotic spectre of house with a pinch of deep and progressive, not to mention the great final minutes started with the breakdown they made of ‘Game Over‘...

You could say it’s the same music on and on, yet all three CDs can be spun one after the other without any harm done to the listener. I like the manner in which the artists mixed their styles together. A very democratic one, because you cannot hear any dominating roles.
