I had the opportunity to emphasize the undeniable qualities of the Japanese label Mule Musiq when I reviewed ‘All These Things’. This time around, the Asian label gave me the chance to focus on its more electronic oriented arm Mule Electronic, the music of which is based on more digital foundations and often wanders off into the regions of techno, as compared to the more instrumental music on the aforementioned outfit. However, that’s were the differences end - the highest of quality is what the two imprints have in common first and foremost. Perfection is also what we’re dealing with in the case of Mule Electronic’s second ever compilation, ‘My Favourite Things‘ - a collection of tracks which will in the most part see the light of day for the very first time. The man behind the comp, Toshiya Kawasaki, managed to compile tracks from big name artists (Koze, Loco Dice, Lawrence and both Guido Schneider and Minilogue under guises) in very impressive fashion, because, after all, each and every one of the producers represents a different style, thanks to which putting them all together them probably wasn’t the easiest of tasks. Kawasaki starts with ambient, later moves on to deep house and minimal, then finishes off with techno. The journey is never similar to an obstacle course – it is always smooth and gains speed with every track. The already mentioned track selection is so good that I’d probably have my doubts whether I was listening to an artist album instead of a compilation, because the compilation is unmixed. Most of the time, such a state of affairs is usually a big disadvantage, but listening to the unmixed ‘My Favourite Things’ brings about no negative emotions whatsoever. Comments[0]
