Ben Korbel - Electric 03

It shouldn't come as a surprise that many – if not the majority – of Sound Revolt's readers are not aware of Ben Korbel’s existence. I probably wouldn't have either had it not been for a set from the Triple J radio that still keeps its place on my CD shelf. In general, Ben is an excellent Australian DJ who’s been succeeding in his homeland for the last 10 years. But despite many bookings abroad, the rest of the world has yet to hear of him.

This state of affairs might change, though, because ‘Electric 03‘ is an extraordinary piece that stands out from most of the albums I have come across in a while. I believe it’s enough to say that listening to it mainly brings to mind Damian Lazarus‘ compilations to let you understand what we’re dealing here with.

Regardless of two short moments during which Ben loses his listeners‘ attention, ‘Electric 03‘ is a perfect album in terms of mixing as well as track selection. Korbel beautifuly compiles sexy deep house with sublime tech house and modern techno, creating a CD that may have the power to make me come back to it. ‘May‘, because I’m not putting it away just yet.
