The abundance of stellar albums thus far this year has given me few reasons to listen to compilations. In fact, I can't even remember the last time I actually gave one a good few listens. When news dropped that Peace Division (one half of which is one of my favourite DJs) were behind the next installment of NRK's 'Coast2Coast' series, I immediatly decided to change the above mentioned state of affairs.
Clive Henry and Justin Drake, who are known the world over for their above par DJ skills, prepared a 14 track house mix which in no way will blow you away. However, it needs saying that it is highly doubtful that that was what the duo was after when compiling the disc in the first place. Instead, what they submitted is the perfect soundtrack to accompany all the mundane day to day routines most people have to go through, from cleaning up in the kitchen to sending out resumes in the middle of the night. Only a select few cuts will grab your attention for longer (most notably Kalabrese's beautiful 'Makelovedisco'), while the rest will allow you to focus on whatever it is you may be doing in the company of not too invasive, high quality music.
All in all, PD's 'Coast2Coast' won't have you picking your jaw up from the floor, but then again not every studio mix has to have that sort of effect on a listener, now does it?
