Jacopo Carreras has had some really good press here. Thus far, we’ve had rated two of his singles and both of them got the highest possible notes. The second one, entitled ‘One Sentence‘, happens to be one of the highlights of the artist‘s debut album which is flooding my room as we speak... I mean read... write... whatever!
It’s difficult to say where the title for the CD came from, but it surely was not from the resting features of these pieces of furniture. Either ‘From Bed to Couch‘ was created mainly on the artist's bed and couch, or Jacopo simply usually uses them in a different - rough and creative to be precise – way, which at the same time would prove that living in Berlin has not deprived him of his Italian temper .
‘From Bed to Couch‘ is rough when it comes to sound and attitude – it doesn’t pour smoothly into your ears like Johnson’s Baby shampoo does during a warm bath. The synths tend to be harsh and noisy, there are some trippy electric guitars, and, while polishing the album Jacopo, intentionally seems to have left some splinters. ‘From Bed to Couch‘ is one of a kind because despite some similarities to Autechre, Mouse on Mars, Alter Ego, Apparat or even Massive Attack, I cannot name a single piece of music that would sound just like it. This beautiful debut shows Jacopo’s devilish creativity.
