Thursday 25th September marked the Berlin-based label Elektrotribe's second birthday. Its music has been reaching our mailbox for around a year now, and it usually has been different from most of the other promos. To sum up their first 24 months in business, the imprint decided to release a 2 CD compilation.
The first CD simply disturbes me with far too many unpleasant, electric roars and tracks with concepts that come to a dead end at the 1,5 minute mark. Luckily, there is more substance to be found on CD 2, onto which more mature productions where compiled. The very brave and original 'Capa Stort' deserves the most praise, although I also really enjoy the slightly oriental, dubby tune ‘Rituals‘ and the tough and rough track ‘Vertikal Im Eimer‘. But at the end of the day that is not enough, and I can't help thinking that the label really should have waited a little longer before releasing a ‘greatest hits‘ album.
