News of Behrouz's creation of a club music encyclopaedia made its way around the world in August. Encyclopaedias usually contain a complete piece of information in one or more fields, hence most of the time they are boring and written in a register that I’m able to understand only after consulting a loanword dictionary. The truth is that the only time I use encyclopaedias is when I absolutely have to, and never for pleasure.
Fortunately, my connotations with Behrouz’s name were positive enough to help me in ignoring the advertising slogan that more than likely missed its target. I say “fortunately” as there aren’t too many house records out there that you can listen to from start to finish without loosing the plot. This is, however, the case with the ‘Pure Behrouz NYC’ compilation. The key to success here is Behrouz’s classic approach to recording DJ sets. Instead of packing 6 million samples onto a laptop, he decided to choose only a dozen or so tracks, and then combined them into one piece with unknown to computers sparkle . Regardless of whether I listen to the first, purely made up of house and progressive music disc or the second one, which is slightly darker and more hypnotic in nature, the ride home always takes half the amount of time it would normally.
