Luke Wan is Luke Fair and Luke Fair is one of my favourite DJs this year. His vision of house is quite varied and has the perfect amount of funk in it. Luke has got some “bigger” fans than me though. During this year’s WMC he played alongside John Digweed, Sasha and James Zabiela on the Delta Heavy party. I rest my case.
I had no idea about Fair’s existence until I heard “The Wish” on Sharam’s “Toronto Afterclub Mix”. A year has passed and I’ve managed to play it a million times so I rather try to have a break from it now. Nevertheless, this is an excellent tune that will always have a special place on my shelf. A cheerful and bouncing bass with a heart raising vocal is simply what this track is all about. However this simplicity and joy are so captivating that “The Wish” will probably be this summer’s smash hit.
Morel, one of Yoshi’s flag ships, tried his hand at reworking this little gem. Basically he speeded all up a bit, slightly re-arranged the bass and added some fast ticking hats that change the dynamics of the whole. Plus, we have some new synths here that give this production a mysterious feeling. The difference between Morel’s versions is that – except for chorus – there is no singing in the dub mix, so it is a perfect springboard for the original.
Summing up – Luke Fair the Great releases a great tune on a great label. Just grab it!
The promo we’ve got didn’t include the “Luke Fair Dub Mix”
