It’s time for another review of a release from a young British label – Segment Records. The previous single, “Beef Curtains” was a very melodic tune, which might have suggested that they wanted to fit in the current trends in progressive. Meanwhile James Talk hands over to a Turkish producer who gets back to the sound from at least a year ago.

“The Mack” seems like it was produced long time ago or its creator wanted to return to the past. However, a quite monotonous progressive made from used up samples is nothing I want to get back to. The gangsta bassline galloping together with the beat and hats form a very groovy feeling, which is the strongest part of the whole. Unfortunately there isn’t much going on there and the listener is exposed to sleepiness.

“Fokker Dude” is also a musical mix of others’ ingredients but fortunately a much better one. I wonder what Yunus Guvenen thinks about it, ‘cause even a layman’s ear will find Muzo’s melody very similar to his fellow countryman’s accomplishments. Well, maybe it’s not a fully fair judgment as the original of “Shen” also included resembling synths. However when you compare “Fokker Dude’s” bassline and its rustling samples with Yunus’s “IP True” you’ll be left with no doubts who models on who.

Dark progressive should be made with an idea and energy to attract attention these days. The flip has no problems with quality. The problem is we have already heard that.
