Jeff Bennett only few weeks ago decided to reactivate his label Kung Fu Dub Recordings, and now it is going to release the third single! To dispel all doubts, it’s Jeff himself who produced all the tracks for the label, so maybe it’s highest time to make a closer look to it.
To make “Freedom if Dub”, Bennett invited a Jamaican freestyler, MC Lee Roy, whose vocal show is a very interested point in the track. However, in the musical and arrangement layer can be felt the work of the master. It is neither tech house minimalism nor duplicating dubby schemes. It is a really fresh and rousing production!
“Conjuction” reminds me somehow the latest lounge album from Jefft Bennett, or at least I can recognize his hand in that track without a moment of hesitation. These are still the rhythms of Jamaica, though in this track sounding more techy, with a very nice clatter in the background.
“The Long Walk” starts utterly like a progressive tune, which doesn’t mean it remains like that. There’s no characteristic rocking anymore, thanks to which the track takes a shape of some new colors taken from the palette of nostalgia. I think an every chillout DJ should be equipped with that tune.
I must admit, that I am no fan of dubby rhythms, though these tracks made me rocking a lot. There’s much more positive energy than club electronica in those tracks, according to which I was able to survive a rainy Sunday morning.
