Desyn Masiello may not be the most famous DJ in the world but he is definitely one of the busiest. Not only does he find obscure tracks but also re-edits them to make them fit in his vision of music. Meanwhile, I have to confess that except the “In House We Trust 3” compilation and few other mixes I didn’t really get the chance to get familiar with Masiello. I dealt with him much more often indirectly while listening to his labels’ releases. He runs the very successful Alternative Route and collaborates with Omid 16b on Sex On Wax. However, the first installment of Bedrock Original Series and the latest Essential Mix have just created another fan of Desyn’s. Me.
From the beginning of “OS.0_1” you know this is going to be something really unique. Desyn takes off with melodic and dreamy electronica, which refuses to be named. I had a dilemma whether to harm this exceptional album with pigeonholing and attempting to describe something that has to be obligatorily heard anyway. I decided to limit myself to an essential minimum. And that minimum includes showing my gratitude towards Desyn for the first half of the mix, which sounds like taking house to another dimension. Tracks from 1 to 5 are pure gems that fit together perfectly creating a melodic, techy and very absorbing whole. In other words – amazing! The album gets heavier with “Frisco” and its sirens but there’s something disturbing going on in that moment. The mix in and mix out sound quite unfriendly. Is it because of the strange beat? I don’t know but it surely grates. Next is the “Joyous Loop” where there is definitely too much going on. But these are the only weaker points of the compilation as from track 8 till the very end Desyn keeps up the party time with class. Who would have thought I would be glorifying an album with filtered vocals and strings?!
As you might have already noticed I didn’t use the track names except for “Frisco” and “Joyous Loop”. On purpose. If I were to single out every wicked tune I would have to paste half of the tracklisting into this review.
