This April a 33 year old Caspar Pound died of cancer. He was an extremely influential producer recording under many guises including The Hypnotist. “Rainbows In The Sky” was the first release of his Rising High label, which has been on the forefront of the scene for almost a decade. The vinyl I’m holding right now is a tribute paid by one of Pound’s long time friends and co-workers, the owner of Silver Planet – Dave Conway. A tribute that speaks not only to the ones who’ve known Caspar’s music but also to those who were watching cartoons in 1991 when Rising High was being set up. These youngsters fully understand the sound of Orchid, who perfectly adapted this classic into our era. This huge, musically complex track is an excellent proof that it’s much better to use many good ideas in one tune rather than make few mediocre productions. The flip holds the original mix and I’m not going to put myself in the reviewer position. In 1991 I was only 9 years old and starting to listen to Iron Maiden and having no clue what electronica might sound like. Today I hear that the original is made of elements I have already heard in various productions but at the times it was released it was blazing trails for the whole scene. Undoubtedly, Caspar Pound deserves remembrance. Comments[0]
