- El Greco - A Prayer Beneath

To clear up all doubts, I need to say that both G.Pal and El Greco are producer aliases of Georgios Pallikaris, who is also an owner of Swift Records. The label is quite young, though its tenth release can be a good occasion to make an anniversary of it. 3rd of July is a date after which many things has changed to George’s life, because on the very next day his family became bigger of one new human being. Can the joy of awaiting be heard in the piece in that case? Nothing of the sort! The track is a kind of a prayer, where hands are being raised to heavens by a piercing men chorus singing. The amazing, very haughty atmosphere emphasizes the ability of the Greek to create original works. Everything here is on its right place and sounds exactly in its right time. No rush, just a beautiful music. El Greco is an alias developed to manifest the more predatory artist’s nature. Though that predatory cannot be found in slightly techy, dry drums. The power has been added to the track by parts of sharp keyboards attacks, calling in the whole arrangement almost unambiguous associations to the “Hey Boy Hey Girl” tune by The Chemical Brothers. However the most characteristic part of the track is a song which sounds like it’s been borrowed in an Orthodox Church library. It’s a very interesting combination, though in effect it’s arousing my interest rather than making me dance. “3rd of July” has been exclusively promoted by Hernan Cattaneo, so if you heard that track somewhere, it was probably one of his sets. However “A Prayer Beneath” has been included on yet ready and awaiting the release compilation “G.Pal/1”. Both tunes form an item which could be also called a prayer record for a progressive listener.
