Yousef is an extraordinary persona for me. His early productions were totaly outside the spectrum of my musical interests. This state of affairs, however, changed in 2005 when he blew me away with the first CD of the perfect compilation he released together with Behrouz on Renaissance. The same one that drew my attention to the artist’s other efforts, but not for long though, as I couldn’t find anything for myself in both his singles and the collabotory album 'Friends'. Four years have passed since then, and I’m listening to another one of his CDs. And again another quake. This time it’s a solo artist album and his debut in this particular line of work.
But can you call Yousef a debutant? Absolutely not, because ‘A Collection of Scars & Situations‘ is the only missing piece of the puzzle of his career. On the other hand, “only“ may not be the right word, as this CD changed the way I perceive the artist. Yousef perfectly combined classic with modern, techno with house, sumblimity with enormous power. I fell in love with this album mainly thanks to the tech house for which I was longing. Not some soft and minimal tracks which we are being overflooded with lately, but proper, and seemingly raw, stormers which remind me of the good old days.
But as I’ve mentioned already, this CD isn't simply a walk down memory lane. Yousef’s good old tech house is hugely inspired by the great evolution of techno that happened in the last couple of years. Thanks to that, ‘A Collection of Scars & Situations‘ is like a breath of fresh air which hopely will find its followers.
